Be Utterly Astounded


Habakkuk 1:5
“Look among the nations and watch
Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.”

This past week we ventured out of the city into the province, into a village not on any map, it was crazy! It’s one thing to know places like that exist it’s a whole other to see it first hand. I was truly astounded by the place God brought me. The people living in that village were so happy, they were carefree and even though they didn’t have a lot they shared all they had. I am so excited to watch, as this verse says, and be utterly astounded by the work God is going to do in that little village and throughout this nation. It is; however, so easy to not believe a work like this could happen. With all the odds against it, even though God has said it. But that’s just the point, God said it, and He is faithful to keep His word. Being here I have heard so many stories of God, time and again, fulfilling His words to His children. The blind receiving sight, family members brought into the knowledge of Him, life long ailments cured, and the list goes on. How can I still doubt God’s goodness and think that He can’t with one word turn this country around? I am beyond excited to watch it happen and am in awe that He would let me be a part of it all.
Application
It is often hard for me to step back and see all that God is doing. So this week, I will take time to see how God has already worked in my team mates and the people around us. I will make a point to write down at least one of my observations so that I can see with my own eyes the work God is doing here.

Whoever Finds His Life...

Matthew 10:39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. As we prepare to leave Cambodia I was struck by this verse. When I got here I was expecting to run hard and to do everything I could in my own strength to bring glory to a God I barely knew. This season has been the complete opposite. I have had to sit still and let God walk before me. I have literally had to die to myself and my ideas, everything I thought this time would be. Now Faith

Now Faith is the assurance of things hoped for the conviction of things not seen Hebrews 11:1 ESV “Now faith”, that in itself is such a strong statement. It means that faith is now . That there is no waiting for faith. The verse goes on to say how faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. In the New King James Version the word “assurance” is replaced by the word “substance”, read this way faith is not only an idea, it is also tangible to us right now. It is so important to understand that faith was never meant to be blind, it is meant to be very clearly known. God wants me to know that my faith is not in vain.
