Be Content


Luke 3:14
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely–be content with your pay”

As I was reading this verse the story of the workers in the vineyard came to mind. (Matthew 20:1-16) At the end of a long day of work, several men had been hired. Some had been working all day while others had only worked for an hour. The men who were hired first grumbled even though they had agreed to the pay they were given. They were not happy that the men who were hired last were also given the same pay. I know I often get upset when I’ve been working hard and no one notices “my extra hard work” (sarcasm sign) Just this week for example. I was on the KP (Kitchen Patrol. Washes dishes, cleans kitchen all that) team last week and I was looking forward to having this week off after climbing a volcano, and doing KP the last seven days I am tired. However the teams got rearranged for the next four weeks and I am on KP again this week. It has been a struggle. At first I was walking around like a martyr. Expecting everyone to notice, I was having my own little pity party. But no one patted me on the back. Surprise, surprise. Well it didn’t take much for me to realize I need to walk through this week with Jesus. I need to be content in my savior, He has all the strength, courage, patience, peace, and grace I will every need and He gives it freely.
Application
So this week as I scrub dishes or pick up after everyone I will remember Jesus walks beside me. After every meal I will write down what Jesus helps me through durning KP. This way I can see the fruit He is producing through this potentially trying week.

Whoever Finds His Life...

Matthew 10:39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. As we prepare to leave Cambodia I was struck by this verse. When I got here I was expecting to run hard and to do everything I could in my own strength to bring glory to a God I barely knew. This season has been the complete opposite. I have had to sit still and let God walk before me. I have literally had to die to myself and my ideas, everything I thought this time would be. I've had to daily lay down my pride and anything that wreaks of me; I have had to ask God to stand in my place. Before Ignite I thought I had found my life only to realize I had completely lost it. Be Utterly Astounded

Habakkuk 1:5 “Look among the nations and watch Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.” This past week we ventured out of the city into the province, into a village not on any map, it was crazy! It’s one thing to know places like that exist it’s a whole other to see it first hand. I was truly astounded by the place God brought me. The people living in that village were so happy, they were carefree and even though they didn’t have a lot they shared all they had. I am so excited to watch, as this verse says, and be utterly astounded by the work God is going to do in that little village and throughout this nation.
