Under Authority

For I too am a man under authority,
with soldiers under me.
And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes,
and to another, ‘come,’ and he comes,
and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who followed him,
“Truly, I say to you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.”
Matthew 8:9-10

I have read this verse and heard this verse many times and each time I am always amazed at the centurion’s faith. It is so simple, such a fact in his life that he doesn’t think twice about it. Having faith isn’t supposed to be hard, seriously, children have more faith than I do sometimes. It just gets so hard to look past whatever is going on in the moment. When really, the trick is not seeing it. Children don’t see the conflict, they don’t have reservations, they just trust. It saddens me deeply that Jesus didn’t find anyone with this kind of faith among His own people. I want to be the person God calls on because of my faith. I don’t want to do this for my own glory I just want to be God’s faithful servant. Another thing I really appreciate about this verse is how we are given a specific scenario in which faith was automatically used.
My application would be to always trust God. Even in the small things I know He is big enough for it. So I will roll this application in with my previous application to spend time just listening to God and what he would say each day this week.
