Stand Firm


Luke 21:19
By standing firm you will gain life.

By itself this is an amazing verse but put into context it becomes even more relevant, starting in verse 15 it says, “For I will give you words of wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. All men will hate you because of me. But not a hair on your head will perish. By standing firm you will gain life.” (NIV) I am blown away. Words of wisdom it says, that my adversaries cannot refute. Wow. Just to ponder that my God would care about me, one of millions of people on this earth, enough to provide for me in this way. I honestly don’t care that man will hate me, my God loves me with an unconditional love that no one can take away from me. Not even death will separate me from His unending love. All I have to do is stand firm, and I am not even called to do that in my own strength but rather in His. I know this week is on perseverance but I have just been blown away by God’s love for me. He cares so much for me that He has given me all the tools I need in Him to resist the devil, stand firm, have peace, share His love, gain life and so many other things that would take too long to list here. I have come to realize the perseverance is 99% God and 1% me simply giving over to Him.
Application
In my devotion each morning I will take take to thank and praise God for all He has done for me.

Whoever Finds His Life...

Matthew 10:39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. As we prepare to leave Cambodia I was struck by this verse. When I got here I was expecting to run hard and to do everything I could in my own strength to bring glory to a God I barely knew. This season has been the complete opposite. I have had to sit still and let God walk before me. I have literally had to die to myself and my ideas, everything I thought this time would be. I've had to daily lay down my pride and anything that wreaks of me; I have had to ask God to stand in my place. Before Ignite I thought I had found my life only to realize I had completely lost it. Now Faith

Now Faith is the assurance of things hoped for the conviction of things not seen Hebrews 11:1 ESV “Now faith”, that in itself is such a strong statement. It means that faith is now . That there is no waiting for faith. The verse goes on to say how faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. In the New King James Version the word “assurance” is replaced by the word “substance”, read this way faith is not only an idea, it is also tangible to us right now. It is so important to understand that faith was never meant to be blind, it is meant to be very clearly known. God wants me to know that my faith is not in vain.
